Hans Sarpei has signed a two-year deal with German
Bundesliga side Schalke 04 from Bayer Leverkusen.
Coach Felix Magath said Sarpei, 34, who has
also played for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga,
would add experience to his backline after the
departure of Brazilian Rafinha.
“After Rafinha left (for Italy’s Genoa)
we were looking for a player who can play
both left and right in the defence,” he said.
The Ghanaian defender played a key role in
Ghana’s World Cup run to the quarter-finals last month.
The move will afford the versatile player an
opportunity to play Uefa Champions League football
with last season’s Bundesliga runners-up.
Sarpei has been invited for Ghana’s 2012 Africa Cup
of Nations qualifier against Swaziland on 5 September.
