Football rivalries in Zanzibar will be renewed on September 2, this year when the 2013-14 Zanzibar Grand Malt Premier League kicks-off.

Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) Secretary General Kassim Haji told the 'Daily News' that preparations for the league were in top gear.

He said 12 teams will battle it out for the Isles crown. Two top teams will also represent Zanzibar in the continental club championships, with the winner taking part in CAF Champions League and the second placed featuring in CAF Confederation Cup.

Haji said the league will be played in three different venues - Amaan and Mao Tse Tung Stadia in Unguja and Gombani Stadium in Pemba. The Community Shield match pitting the 2012/2013 Champions KMKM and second placed Chuoni FC will be held at Gombani Stadium in Pemba on September 1 to signal the league's official kick-off.

The ZFA boss said the league was earlier planned to kick off next month but the association felt it wise to push it back to September to give clubs ample time to prepare. Twelve teams which will compete in the league are KMKM, Chuoni, Mafunzo, Jamhuri, Zimamoto, Mtende Rangers, Chipukizi, Miembeni, Polisi, Kizimbani and Fufuni.
