Both Caps United and Dynamos showed imperious form ahead of what could prove to be the most epic of the big Harare derbies in recent times as both giants set themselves in motion with big wins in the race for the Castle Lager Premier League title.

After Dynamos dismissed Harare City 3-1 on Wednesday at Rufaro, Caps made a bold statement when they hammered Tripple B 3-0 at the National Sports Stadium yesterday to move within three points of log leaders and archrivals DeMbare.

The result not only underlined Caps' title credentials, but also set up what could be an explosive Harare derby a week on Sunday.

Hardlife Zvirekwi scored two stunning goals in the first half before striker Dominic Chungwa added a third in the second half as Caps dominated the newcomers from start to finish.

The Green Machine struggled against the same opponents who have shown that if they go down it will not be without a fight forcing a draw in the first match just as they did against Harare City two weeks ago.

But the big Harare derby is set to form the soundtrack of the week ahead of the clash in which both clubs have all to fight, for.

While it has retained its ferocity, the combustible fixture, in recent years, may have been marred by the gulf between the two with Dynamos ruling the roost, but Tau Mangwiro at Caps has established a strong team since his return from the Asiagate ban.

Caps will be looking to join Dynamos on 38 points while DeMbare will see this as an opportunity to put daylight between them and their city rivals.

This could be the match of the year and it couldn't have come at a better time with both teams hitting top form.

Highlanders are still well in it, Harare City and FC Platinum too, but this week it's all about perennial foes Dynamos and Caps.
