Adefemi Heading to Europe E-mail
Written by Ayo Akinfe

Nigeria defender Olubayo Adefemi has completed a move to Romanian giants, Rapid Bucharest on a free transfer.

After three weeks of uncertainty, the 2008 Beijing Olympics star sealed a four-year deal with the club on Sunday.

"It's a fresh start and I'm really looking forward to the new challenge here.

"I'm coming here with a more determined heart and to repay the club for their confidence in me," Adefemi told KickOffNigeria.com

The full-back's career had been at a crossroads following a complaint by his former club in Nigeria that they still own his contract.

The management of amateur side AS Racine claimed they still have the rights to the 23-year-old five years after he left them.

But the Romanian FA, Israeli FA and Nigeria Football Federation cleared the player as a free agent and issued Rapid Bucharest his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

"I've spoken to the manager here and they are happy all the problems are over now," says Adefemi.

"Things look good from now on and I hope to put all the past behind me and bring the best of my ability. Hopefully the sort of success with the Nigerian team, that's something I can match at Rapid."
