CHIEFS ROMP TO A COMFORTABLE WIN E-mail
Written by Administrator

Kaizer Chiefs comfortably beat Black Africa of Namibia 3-0 in the first leg of the preliminary stage of the Orange CAF Champions League competition on Saturday in Johannesburg.

Two goals from Kingston Nkatha and the other from Mandla Masango gave the Soweto giants a good lead to take to Namibia in the return leg.

The home side were too strong for the visitors and could have added more to their tally.

Amakhosi raced to a 2-0 lead at half-time and had they utilised most of their chances, the scoreline could have been more than double the final result.

After dominating the opening minutes, Chiefs went ahead in the 18th minute when Masango finished off a Knowledge Musona cross.

Chiefs went 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Nkatha blasted a long range shot which gave the visitors’ keeper no chance.

The Premiership leaders then totally dominated Black Africa in the second half but had to wait until the 85th minute to put the issue beyond doubt when Zimbabwean Nkatha completed his brace much to the delight of coach Stuart Baxter and the home team supporters.

“I am happy with the result although I think we could have scored many, many more goals had we been more ruthless in front of goal,” said Baxter.

“We made lots of changes to the starting line-up in order to keep players fresh in this demanding period in which we have to play two games in a week. We are prepared for the challenge and we want to push very hard and go further in this competition.”

His Namibian counterpart, Brian Isaacs admitted that his team were resoundingly defeated but not embarrassed.

“We knew we were up against a professional side, but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. We however, need to improve our finishing in the second leg if we are to give ourselves a chance,” said Isaacs.
