Malian club Djoliba became the first qualifiers for the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals after a dramatic 2-1 triumph Saturday away to Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca.
Aboubacar Bangoura snatched a final-minute winning goal as Djoliba repeated the victorious scoreline of Bamako two weeks ago and took an unassailable seven-point Group B lead.
Alou Bagayoko put the visitors ahead after 11 minutes at the vast Stade Mohammed V Stadium in the Moroccan commercial capital and was yellow carded before Abderrazak El Mnasfi levelled midway through the opening half. Djoliba have 10 points, AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville three and Wydad and 2009 Confederation Cup winners Stade Malien of Mali two each with the top two finishers advancing to the semi-finals. Surprise qualifiers Leopards, who eliminated several big-name clubs en route to the eight-team mini-league phase, host Stade on Sunday and a win would leave them well placed to march on with Djoliba. Al-Hilal head Group A followed by fellow Sudanese sides Al Merreikh and Al Ahly Shandy while Angolan police team InterClube are all but out of the reckoning after taking just one point from four outings. |
